Determine your Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) Version

To configure an Experlogix Smart Flows connector to an On‑premises deployment of Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE, it is recommended to authenticate via Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) if the Smart Flows instance is in the cloud. How to precisely configure the connector depends on the version of ADFS that runs on the system where the Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE environment is hosted.

This article explains how to determine the version of AD FS currently deployed.

Procedure

1. Log on to the AD FS server.
2. Open PowerShell as an administrator.
3. Run the command below:
Copy

Get ADFS Properties

Get-AdfsProperties | Select-Object -Property FederationServiceVersion

Result Mapping

FederationServiceVersion

AD FS version

3.0 AD FS 3.0 (Windows Server 2012 R2)
4.0 AD FS 4.0 (Windows Server 2016)
5.0 AD FS 5.0 (Windows Server 2019 / 2022)

The version of AD FS is closely tied to the version of Windows Server. So based on that, you can predict the version of AD FS installed, but the procedure above is a more reliable way of determining the installed AD FS version.
